Longest day has come and gone…

Can you believe the month of June is nearly over and we have already experienced the longest day of the year?  Our longest day was less than spectacular as it was cloudy for the better part of the day and then a brief, but good, rain shower.  For the last week, or so, it’s been cool enough to not have the AC on and that’s always good…hate the high bills that go with using the AC…and love the sounds of the wind chimes, birds, etc. since the windows are open.

We went to Louisville on Father’s day to enjoy the afternoon with the Gabehart family.  That was a lot of fun and we had a great time and meal…hamburgers, baked beans, potato salad, chips, and banana pudding.  Fortunately, my Celiac kept me from over indulging on the high calorie items.  What I ate was delicious and it was good hearing all about Madi and Tyler’s week at camp.  Ryan is still job searching and Kyle is still going strong with the baseball schedule.  Byron and Melissa are busy working and just keeping a step or two ahead of the kids.

Tanya only has a little over a month of school left…she’s done extremely well managing school, home, and work…but  glad to see it coming to an end.  She’ll take her boards sometime in September and then she’ll be a board certified pediatric nurse practitioner.  All her kids are involved in some sort of camp all this week and that’s been good for everyone…Jerod is at a academic camp in Springfield, KY, Meredith is at dance camp, while Blake and Grayson are at a day camp at church.  Grayson is also on the All Stars baseball team so that keeps Daniel on the go after work…Blake was on a different All Star team but decided he’d had enough ball for the year and backed down.

Carter and Lori are still trying to sell their home in Birmingham so they can get moved to Dallas before winter.  Clark and Vanessa are really moving to Racine, WI by July 1…even though their house in Burlington has not yet sold…and that will be good for them to finally be settled.  Please pray they will have a buyer for their house before long…house payment + rent for temporary housing = lots of $$$$.  Scott and Allison are just busy working and enjoying the twins.  All the grandchildren from these three families are doing well, as far as we’re hearing.

George and I stay busy helping where we can around our neighborhood.  We have a single mom down the street that needed some much needed fence repair done so George, long with the Crockett boys and myself, got it all back together and it’s now in the process of being painted.  It looks so nice and has really given her spirits a boost.  We’re going to help her paint the outside of her house and garage before fall.  She’s a sweet lady, works hard, has her ailing mother living with her, along with two young adult sons (one still in high school and the other is going in the military this fall/winter), and just needed a helping hand.  Don’t we all need a helping hand at times?  Look around, who can you help?

Since Wilmore is blessed with many feral cats, George managed to trip “Mama” cat along with her five newly introduced babies on Monday/Tuesday and we took them to the SAVE animal shelter yesterday afternoon so they could give them a new home.  My guess is they’ll get to see Jesus!   The babies were so cute but not one of them was appreciative or friendly!   In fact, they would bite, scratch, and hiss at us at every opportune time.

Of course, the blue house continues to have guest each month and we’re so thankful  It will keep us busy in July since we have it rented for 18 days currently.  We got two different bookings for August yesterday so our little investment continues to pay off.

Tanya will have her pinning exercise on August 6th, so we’ll go to Nashville then and we hope to go down a day or so early to visit Linda, Jim, Linda, Lawrence, and Buddy.  Life keeps us all so busy we seldom have the time we should for family and friends and that’s sad.

The first week in September we are meeting our good friends, Ron and Jean, in Santa Fe for a few days of doing whatever fun stuff these old bodies can find to do.  Whatever we do will be fun because we really love spending time with these precious friends.

Madi will be coming to spend a week with us in July so she can attend an art camp being held close by.  She’s quite artistic and will love all this camp will provide…taught by a friend of ours so we know she’ll love it.  We  hope we can get all the kids for a week but with job searching, baseball, camp, etc…it just may not be possible.  School starts in August so we’ll have to see how it can be worked out.

We’re going to a neighborhood pot luck tonight so I need to get up and fix something good.  The menu is hot dogs, which I can’t eat,  Everyone else is suppose to bring some sort of side dish/dessert so I’m making a dish of meatballs.  These are mainly college/seminary students so the menu is always economical and full of gluten.  I can usually find something to eat but it’s ALWAYS iffy for me.

Have a great rest-of-the-week.   It was good hearing from Linda about their trip to California and that sounded fun.  It’s been years since  we’ve seen the family there and I feel sure it will be years before we see then again…if ever!  Love to all!

Blessings…..
