Derby Day….

We have had a rather warm but gorgeous week until it got time for the BIG races at Churchill Downs yesterday.  If you know anything about Kentucky, you know the first weekend in May is Derby Day but the festivities start almost three weeks before this.  In the horse racing world there are many BIG races but the Oaks, which is ran on Friday, and the Derby, which is run on Saturday, are among the top.  Yesterday just a hour or so before time for the running of the Oaks, Louisville was blasted with severe thunderstorms…at least they were NOT tornadoes…and all 100,000 fans had to get inside.  Wonder where they put all of them?  The race finally was able to go off after a 1 1/2 hour delay and a female jockey won…first female jockey ever to win the Oaks.  Today the derby will take place and all this rain should be gone by then, hopefully, ’cause they’ll have more than 100,000 in attendance for it.  Going to the derby is lots of fun, the people are interesting, the hats the ladies wear are BIG, and the horses are beautiful.  We’re going to go to our usual derby party in Louisville this afternoon but we’re a much calmer bunch…no hats, lots of food, no live horses, and good conversations.  Did I mention LOTS OF FOOD!!!!!

This has been a busy week, but I’m beginning to think that’s just a life-style anymore, and nothing really exciting happen to make it so busy.  We have most days filled with something and I’m happy about that as I get bored really easy when there isn’t much to do.  Our current guest at the “blue house” are here for their son’s graduation and they are thrilled with the house…going to have a party tonight to honor their son and wanted to know if it’d be OK.  We love how the people use the house as if it were home and everyone has taken really good care of it…so far!

Last night was a noisy night with the LOUD thunder and heavy rain, but today should be sunny…and humid from the feel of it.  We have new neighbors moving in and they are older than we are…imagine that!   I don’t know if they plan to stay in that little apartment for a while or just while they look for something else.  They seem really nice and I look forward to knowing them better.  Usually those apartments are filled with college or seminary students.  I guess you never know what brings people to Wilmore!

Guess I’m out of stuff to write about.  Have a good day and may your horse win…I don’t even know one name of any horse running today!  God continues to bless all of us abundantly and I am so thankful.  Love to all.

Blessings……
