Today we were invited for dinner at the home of our Russian neighbors. We were first ask to watch a video from the early 60’s. It was all in the Russian language and we were suppose to see what some of their culture was like during that time…at least that was what I understood it to be about. There were no subtitles but Vladimir, our host and neighbor, paused it many times to try and explain what was going on. It was some sort of comedy, I think, and we did our best to understand what was happening. The language barrier is still a problem.
Tamara had fixed us dinner which consisted of meatballs…that were delicious…bread, and a salad that consisted of red and yellow tomatoes, onion, and cucumbers with a mayo dressing….it, too, was good. She had some Russian candy, a store bought cake, and fresh fruit for dessert along with a Russian tea with the tea leaves. The one piece of candy I ate was delicious, but I was too full to eat any cake. One cup of tea was enough since I really didn’t know just what I was suppose to do with the tea leaves…I left them in my cup! They were very gracious and we enjoyed being in their home. We will continue to grow our friendship and we will overcome the language difference in time…at least I hope we will.
Today has been a really cool day with a light drizzle of rain this morning. In fact, It was cool enough to put on long pants…first since last spring…but I feel sure tomorrow will be warmer. It sure beats those hot/humid days we’ve had for most of August.Â
We continue to enjoy the easy life of a small town. One of our widow neighbor ladies came over this morning to just sit on the front porch and visit with us. Now when had we ever done that in Louisville? She’s a sweet lady. We also have a young couple…along with their six month old son…that just moved in across the street that we’re becoming friends with. They are from Michigan, I think, and he’ll be going to the seminary the next four years. They hope to go into the mission fields after he graduates. Most all our neighbors are Christians and many have spent time doing mission work or are preparing for mission work. Great place to live…REALLY!!!
My bronchitis is gone but I woke up this morning with a sore throat and congestion so guess I’ll be back to the doctors tomorrow. Since this will be a long weekend I don’t want it to get worse and have no means of getting any medical care…the doctors office will be closed along with our one drug store for Labor Day. It’s probably just allergies but it sure came on fast. I’m still on antibiotics for the bronchitis so you’d think I’d not come down with something else! Oh well, it’s allergy season and I’m a good candidate!
Pray for my Mother, please, as she’ll be having some injections in her spine tomorrow. They have to put her to sleep to do it and that’s always a risky thing to do when you’re her age and with a heart condition. Hopefully, this will help rid her of some of the pain she constantly has to live with. It’s also getting harder for her to walk and she’s really worried about that. Therefore, please pray!!
We heard yesterday that some friends that were once in one of our small groups back in Louisville are going to have twins! This is their third pregnancy and I’m sure they are both shocked and surprised. Anyway, CONGRATULATIONS KEITH AND JENNY! It’s always a good time to move, sell a house, buy another house, and start a new job the same time you find out your working on #3…and #4. You’ll really be busy these next few months…YEARS!
Have a great rest-of-the-week and may God bless you with good health and many friends.
Blessings……
