What a first week we’ve had here in Florida. We arrived here in Englewood last Sunday afternoon, got all settled in, shopped at the grocery, and then just relaxed until we went to bed. Monday was a beautiful day, got our walk in, went to the beach, and just relaxed. Tuesday morning was another story. George woke up early sweating profusely, had high blood pressure, his right eye socket and into the nose area was hurting, and he could not swallow. So off to the ER we went. The Venice Regional Hospital treated him immediately and it was diagnosed that he had had a very mild stroke in the brain stem area…all test came back negative but he was showing signs of having had a stroke due to speech and some drooping on the right side of his face. He was admitted and spent the next day and a half having more test, etc. Again, all came back negative. Thankfully, our nephew-in-law, Richard, is on staff there and he read all test reports, talked with each Doctor, and assured us he was a very fortunate man and everything we were being told was accurate. So we came back to the place we’re staying and began trying to get on with our vacation. By Wednesday morning…after being admitted on Tuesday morning…he was able to swallow, all “droopiness” was gone, and speech had improved. He has no restrictions except with eating…on a regular diet, eat slower, chew, chew, chew, and swallow 2 times for each bite. He’ll see the neurologist in about a month…or when we can get the appointment…and he’ll have some speech therapy because of the swallowing issues. He is once again his “sweet” self and we praise God for his watch/care throughout this ordeal. Sure hope it never happens again but we will continue to praise God regardless.
We have had a terrible time with good phone service here and it has gotten worse. We can make calls…although not very successfully…and we are currently not able to receive any calls. George is currently on the phone trying to get this straightened out for the third day in a row. We know it will finally get resolved but it is very distressing since this is also our business lines and we’ve had a couple of people wanting to rent the “blue house”…one I managed to get a message to and the other I’m not so sure. Should we get this all worked out today, I’ll be able to actually call them. The joys of our dependence on technology!
We’re going for our daily walk as the sun is shining bright…was gloomy and rained hard yesterday…and then we’ll see what the day presents to us. Have a great week, stay warm, and we are both doing well while basking in this Florida sunshine. Love to you all!
Blessings…..
