What can I say but that July has been an amazing month. The first half of the month was blistering hot, and humid, to a fault…then we had several days of near fall weather…and now we’re back to July. During the week of ‘blistering HOT/HUMID” days, we were in New York and they were in competition to see if they could be like KY. Believe me they were!
We head to Niagara Falls, NY on the 18th and it was a nice, LONG ride, but proved to be uneventful…thankfully. Once we arrived there, got checked into our hotel, the fun began. Parking was limited around the hotel, but they do have the use of a garage a couple of blocks away…unfortunately the desk clerk didn’t inform us exactly how to use it. We get parked, unload all we felt we needed for the night…most of our stuff…and then began walking the two blocks back to the hotel. We looked like a couple of vagabonds. Oh well, I got a good laugh out of it! We are given a handicapped room, which is OK with us, but unfortunately the door won’t lock…found this out when we went to go eat dinner. George calls the desk, we wait somewhat patiently after a LONG 12 hour ride, and no one comes. George is going to the elevator to see the desk person but they are getting off the elevator with keys to a different room. We gather up all our stuff, get on the elevator to go to the 2nd floor. The elevator stops at the second floor but the door doesn’t open and proceeds back to the 3rd floor. We try again and it works. We get to our NEW room, leave our stuff, and go to a very nice restaurant and had a delicious dinner. We now go on our walking tour, with thousands of others, to see the falls and they are beautiful! Once we had our tired fill of them, we head back to our room to find we have no power. Another call to the desk, maintenance responds immediately, and we now have lights. We had a good nights sleep, so we felt good the next morning.
It is now Friday, and we are going to eat breakfast provided by the hotel in their “PaPa John” eating area. Almost everything is filled with gluten…not good at all for me but, Oh well…breakfast pizzas, waffles, cereal that’s filled with gluten, donuts, and fruit. I survived and we head to the lobby to wait for our tour bus we had gotten to go to the Canadian side. When we bought the ticket they told us it was a four hour tour and we’d be back in the USA around 1:30…we told our friends we’d be in Liverpool around 3. Perfect…or so we thought. We get on the bus and we’re told we’ll be back around 4:30. Our faces must have had a shocked expression as our tour guide ask if that was a problem. Oh well, we will have to adjust our plans so we text our friends. They are understanding about not seeing us until Saturday morning. Our tour was very good, the falls were spectacular, and the boat ride up to the falls was fun and WET. Canada is definitely the side you want to see it on because of the panoramic view of it all.
We finally get back to the USA and head to Liverpool…another 2 1/2 hour ride. Check into our hotel, close to our friends apartment, and find it to be comfortable, so all is good. The next morning we go to our friends, enjoy a delicious home cooked breakfast, and then head out to see different areas of central NY. Of course, this is the day it’s the hottest, with the highest humidity, of the year! We had a fun day, regardless, and that’s truly another beautiful part of our country. We enjoyed our friends being our tour guides…Bob and Kathy are so special. On our last day there, we head to Cooperstown, per George’s request, to go to the baseball hall of fame…another 2 1/2 hour ride through some beautiful country. It was induction day so there were thousands of people there, too. We didn’t go to the induction but once the crowd left to go to that…about a mile away…the crowd was a lot less. We really enjoyed the museum and all we saw there. Thankfully, the heat and humidity was gone so the day was very pleasant.
The party is over so it’s time we head for home. As usual, it was good to be back home, after another 12 hour ride, with a heart full of memories and good times. Guess that’s about it, as once we got here it’s been busy at the “blue house” and here at home. Life is good and we are thankful for all we enjoy and the health in which to do it. Have a great weekend and stay cool as the heat is back.
Blessings……..
