I am sad to say that we only have two weeks left here in Florida and it’s still winter at home. YIKES!!! Oh well, hopefully all the ice, snow, and wind will be over with for this winter, but I do know we can expect to have several cold days to look forward to once we do get back home. Winter will hang on through March, even April, but generally it won’t be to bad.
We had a very nice Valentine’s day this year and even experienced a first for us. We were invited to dinner at a friends home along with two other couples. Upon arrival at Clay and Pat’s  home, we were shown some pictures of a rather large moose that their son-in-law had shot in Alaska where he’s stationed. They said this moose weighed between 1400 – 1500 pounds and it had a very large rack on his head so I’m sure he did weigh that much. Then they told us we would be having “moose stew” for dinner…Clay brought some of this meat home with him over the holidays. I was intrigued and needless to say it was delicious…tasted like beef to me. I had been told we were having an Alaskan meal and really thought we’d be having salmon. So moose stew was a real treat since I’m not big on salmon. It really was good and would recommend it to each of you reading this blog.
George did another good job of teaching our adult bible class this morning. Several keep asking us to consider moving to Sarasota because they need us (George) there. This is a fun area to spend a couple of months, but it’s way to far from family for me, so there’s no interest in making this a permanent home. Some good folks at this church, but like every church they do have their problems.
Our tans are coming along nicely which is surprising since we really haven’t spent that much time out in the sun. Generally, it’s only a couple of hours each day but some days we were not out at all due to cold or rain. This is my only time to get any tan because KY doesn’t have the salt air that enhances the ability to tan.
We understand Tyler had a fun birthday party /sleepover with three of his buddies. They even got some sleep which surprised me. He’s a precious boy and from all I hear he’s becoming quite good on the piano…plays by ear. He got that talent from his grandfather on his dad’s side. Byron’s family is quite musical and I hope Tyler will continue to develop these gifts. He’s also quite the basketball player! In fact, he’s quite a boy!
We haven’t heard much from Ron and Jean concerning their son-in-law. They did write once this past week that he wasn’t responding to treatment as well as they had hoped and they are being told now that if he doesn’t respond soon his chances of survival are slim. Therefore, please continue to pray for Doug.
Mother said she’s feeling better and for that I’m thankful. Of course, she’s never going to be able to do all she want to do, or use to do, but that’s to be expected once you’re her age. I can’t do what I use to do and don’t even want to do a lot of it anymore! She does well most of the time but her legs do bother her because they are weak and that’s a concern. Hang in there, Mom, you’re doing great! Dad’s still playing golf several times each week and said he’s doing well, too. We are blessed!
This week should be another relaxing week with several trips to the beach, hopefully. We are enjoying our time here and getting a lot of reading accomplished…both serious and fun. George has fished a couple of times but hasn’t caught anything much yet…no one is catching anything from what we hear. Maybe this will be the week he’ll catch a big one!
Our friend, Adam, will be having his 31st birthday tomorrow and I send birthday wishes to him. He’s a good man with a wonderful family and one we’re happy to call our friend.
Enjoy your week!
Blessings…………
