George and I just got home a little while ago from Louisville where we participated in the first of the triple crown derby races. This one was a 5K and we both felt good about our results and it was a near perfect day to be in a 5K…George ran and I walked the 3.2 miles. There was a big crowd of people…nearly 8,000…and I did not see one soul I knew. Guess all my acquaintances enjoy being out of shape!
We went to Louisville last night and surprised the kids by being there when they got home from school. They all seemed to have grown a bunch while we were in Florida the five weeks. We got to see Tyler play in his basketball league this morning…after our 5K…and that was fun. He’s quite the player and truly loves the sport even though his team has struggled this season. After his game, Melissa and Madi headed for Nashville for the Carrie Underwood concert tonight…they were meeting Tanya and Meredith in Elizabethtown and they would be riding together on into Nashville. Allison and her friend would be meeting them there so it should be a great “girls weekend”.
The next event of the triple crown will be a 10K and George has signed up for that and I’m still contemplating doing it…going to see if I have sore muscles tomorrow. I walk the 3.2 miles every time I walk so I should do fine but I’m not sure I could handle a 6 + mile walk. I definitely won’t do more than that one, if I do it, since the third one is a 10 miler and then the mini marathon (13 + miles). My muscles and bones are just to old and tired to do much more than a 5K!Â
