We survived…

Here it is Monday morning, the most beautiful day you could ever ask to enjoy, and we are home safe, sound, and rested after sleeping in our own bed last night.  We had a great week at camp although when we worked, WE WORKED. We did manage to have more down time this year because we only cooked for 87-90 people each day…usually we cooked for 125 +/- a few.  I was thankful for the down time so I could spend more time with my friends and catching up on what’s going on with them and their families.  Our weather while at camp was the best we’ve ever had…rained one time during the night, temperatures in the low to mid 80’s, and low humidity.  The meals were good, served on time, and very few left overs for the noon meal on Friday when we get rid of everything…this noon meal consisted of ham, macaroni & cheese (left over), mashed potatoes, broccoli with cheese  sauce (left over & new), green beans with corn added (left over), tossed salad and a relish tray and cookies for dessert plus a birthday cake that was brought in for one of the campers.  So, even though it was with leftovers, it was a good meal.   The kids eat good while we’re there.  Here’s a few of the items we had for dinner during the week…hamburgers, lasagna, turkey, ham, sub sandwiches with home made bread,  plus other good stuff.  We had a big tossed salad at every noon and evening meal in case the kids didn’t like the other stuff.  We had three (3) big meals each day and I feel sure not a kid there have that at home.  Being a cook at camp is very tiring since we’re standing on concrete floors all day, but I love doing it and being with everyone.  Serving is such a joy when you do it with others that you love!

We left camp after lunch on Friday and headed for St. Louis to spend the weekend with two other couples that we enjoy spending time with.  We were all in the same small group when we all lived in Louisville.  George has a picture of  the group from camp and St. Louis on his blog so check it out.   St. Louis was a busy place since the All-Star baseball game is being played there tomorrow night…reminded me of Louisville and all the activities that go on there during derby week.  I guess I should say derby weeks since that goes on for over three weeks!  Regardless, we had a wonderful time at both events and feel blessed to have done them.  God continue to bless my life and for that I am most grateful.

We got home last evening with enough time for George to mow the lawn while I washed all our clothes from the week…five loads.  I crawled in bed a little after midnight and think I fell asleep instantly.

Tomorrow our neighbors, Mark and Leslie, will be having their second child so we’ll be helping out with their son Weston this week.  They are precious people and we’re thankful they chose the duplex across the street to live in while Mark is getting his PhD.  Their long term plans are to go into the mission field so that others will get to know our Lord and Savior through them.  They are a blessing to us and I know they will be to those people.

Last night while I was waiting for my clothes to come out of the dryer, I thought I’d get on the computer.  Well, it wouldn’t connect to the internet so I took it out to George on the front porch…he keeps it going for me…and this baby dove flew up and landed on the computer.  Then it jumped up on the back of the glider and finally was sitting on George’s shoulder.  This guy had no fear what so ever!  Well, the Crockett’s dropped by and while we visited on the front porch, the dove sat right there with us and would let the kids pet it, etc.  Finally, we decided the neighborhood cats would find it to be a good meal, so Meredith took it home with them.  Just what the long term plans are, I’m not sure but it was spared for at least one night!  I’ve never seen a wild bird that tame.

Guess I need to get my walk in…I’ve become very lazy about doing this and it’s showing in how rapidly the inches are coming back on.  Have a good week and we’re thankful to be back home.

Blessings……..
