Vanessa’s surgery

Vanessa had her spinal surgery this morning, Friday June 1st, and did very well.  Of course, these next couple of days will be rough, but they only had to cut once…from the front side…and not twice as was expected.  They also don’t cut the muscles but seperate them which will help in the healing process.  She’ll be sore, but not as sore  if they had cut the muscles.  The surgeon said her spine was worse than he expected, but because she has strong, healthy bones he felt the spacers would do well without the “cage and screws” that would have been inserted from her back.  It’s amazing what they can do to repair a body.  They will have her up this evening to take a couple of steps and will increase the walking each day.  She is expected to go home on Monday, June 4th…Tuesday the 5th at the latest.   They were expecting a 5 1/2 – 6 hour surgery time, but because of the change of plans, she was only in surgery a little over two hours.  Again what a blessing.  That will help in her healing process!  I’ll post more later as to how she’s progressing.

Her parents will help her this next week while we are in New Orleans and then we will gladly take our turn.  The doctor said after two weeks she should be able to handle things on her own but not to over do anything…no bending, lifting, eat lots of protein, and walk.  He said she should do fine for the family vacation in July and then on to Iowa…let’s hope the house here is sold ASAP so that worry will be over.

Have a great weekend and I’ll be back soon.

Blessings…..
