We got to Abilene last night about 10:45 and we had a very uneventful day, but a very good day. We left West Memphis, AR. yesterday morning and traveled in rain off and on throughout the day. One of the highlights of the day was our time with Dereca and her sweet family…Tanya’s very good friend from college. She knows all about my Celiac disease…several of her family members also have this disease… so she fixed us a delicious dinner which included a delicious gluten free cake. She also gave me a lot of information about dealing with this disease and a BIG bag of grocery items she said were good. She said they have all spent a ton of dollars on items they couldn’t eat and she said all the things were good. This morning I tried one of the breakfast bars…at least I think it was a breakfast bar but it tasted just like a rice crispy treat to me and it was really good. I have lots of other things to try within the next few days and I appreciate her going to the time, trouble, and expense of helping me adjust to my NEW life. You never realize the many things we eat that contain gluten. Not only can I not have any gluten, I can’t eat anything that has even been touched by something that contains gluten. Sure does change the way I get to eat from now on! Oh well, such is life and I keep reminding myself it could have been a lot worse.
I have no idea what we’ll be doing while here but I feel sure we’ll play some 42 and just visit. Mom is not able to walk much and we’ve seen everything that’s around here several times, so visiting and 42 sound good to me. The ACU lectures start on Sunday but I don’t plan to attend any of those except maybe the one on Wednesday night when our friend Chris Smith will be the keynote speaker. He ought to have something of interest to say, but we’ll see!
Mom’s once again in the kitchen so guess I’d better get up and see what she’s up to. Dad is going to a funeral in a little bit, George has put our van in the shop, and I’m just blogging away so life is good in Abilene.
Blessings…..
