Our time here in Abilene will be over in the morning when we will once again be heading back towards KY. The folks are doing well for the most part, but Mother did develop some sort of congestion in her chest and had to get something for that yesterday. She sounds a lot better this morning, thank goodness! Coughing is not a good thing for her. She and Dad are going to see the doctor this morning to see if some of her medication can be eliminated since she’s taking quite a few pills each day…this was suggested by her heart doctor.
George and I got to visit with Marcus Brecheen yesterday after listening to his lecture at ACU. He’s so much like his dad and we thoroughly enjoyed visiting with him…we have great memories of him as a child while we lived in Abilene and he and Carter were best friends. He’s an excellent teacher so if you ever have an opportunity to hear him, it will be worth your time.
We’ve had reasonably good weather this week here in Abilene. Usually it’s very warm this time of the year, but this week it’s been mostly in the mid 80’s…one day it got to 93 and then the very next day it was only in the upper 60’s. Strange weather for west Texas. Of course since the Summit…formerly called the Lectures…is going on the weather should be unusual!
We took Mom and Dad out to dinner last night to the Outback Restaurant and it was great! They even have a gluten free menu for people like me so we all left there full. We also got to play a couple of hands of 42 and mom and dad finally got to win one! They were saved when Lorin came over which ended the 42 game. It was a fun time and I lucked out by getting several 84 hands so we won more games than we lost. Fun, fun time.
We’ll be going back over to the college tonight to hear our friend Chris Smith speak. He and George got to have lunch together on Monday and that caught them up on things for now. I’m sure there won’t be any visit time tonight but I do want to here what he has to say.
Guess I’d better get our stuff washed and packed so I ask you to pray once more for our safe travels tomorrow and Friday. We’ll be meeting Jerre…my youngest brother…tomorrow morning in De Soto, TX for a few minutes and then head towards Memphis, TN where we will spend the night with Scott and Allison…this will be fun as we haven’t seen them for awhile. Hopefully, we’ll be home Friday evening. It’s a long drive but we’re thankful we are able to come and see the folks and see others along the way.
Have a great rest-of-the-week.
Blessings……..
