I will try and get a few things out before we go back to church tonight concerning our vacation.Â
We all arrived on Saturday and got settled in rather quick so we could all head down to the beach. The beaches in Destin are beautiful…white sand, no shells to speak of so easy to walk on the beach, and the water was a beautiful blue. The water did change colors throughout the week and ended up a green that was almost crystal clear. The waves were great for the most part and big enough to ride on with the boogie boards…that is, if you could catch it at the right time. I caught one wave and I was going rather fast and ended up on the dry sand. It was a blast and quite entertaining to those watching! Old women aren’t suppose to be doing such foolish stuff! The only down part was the Jelly Fish were there and Jerod got stung 3 times, Kyle once, and Grayson once. I was too fast for them to catch me since I was on that boogie board!
Carter and Lori had to return to Birmingham on Tuesday evening so their time was short but I was glad they came. They said they really enjoyed being with everyone and I was thankful I got to spend the time with them.
Our accomodations were very nice…7 bedroom, 4 baths, 2 kitchens, and living rooms. Again, the only bad part was trying to keep everything in one kitchen. Every meal we’d have to make numerous trips up/down to the other kitchen for something needed…great weight control device. We tried doing the cooking from the downstairs kitchen but the upstairs kitchen had the best refrigerator, etc. so up/down we’d go! We had lots of laughs about it and we survived just fine and everyone was very co-operative.
I had my first deep sea fishing experience and that was lots of fun. It’s expensive, lots of work, but a fun day and I’m glad I got to go. The first time we tried to go out the water was very rough…but, the day we did fish it was very calm. I caught the first fish…red snapper…and it was a keeper. In fact, it was part of the dinner that evening. Since no one else caught anything big enough to keep, we went and bought steaks to go with my one little fish. They said the fish was good…I didn’t try it…but the steak was a success!
We…Melissa, Tanya, and myself…took the little girls to see the dolphins one day and the boat ride that day was like a ride at the fair…rather choppy! They had lots of fun and we did see lots of dolphins. After we got back we took them to lunch and then to “Build A Bear” store and they got to make their own stuffed animal. Cute store and I wished we would have thought of that concept…they make lots of money! The boys went fishing or to ride the bumper cars and go carts. Everyone had a fun time and there were lots of happy tales at the end of the day.
Melissa, Tanya, Allison, and myself went on to lunch and shopping one day. That was an experience for the rich…I just can’t afford a $250 pair of sandals or a $400 sun dress. It was fun looking at what the rich enjoy. I’ll take my simple life any day!
Here it is almost 10 p.m. and I’ve yet to pack for the Iowa trip so guess I’d better get off of here. I’ll be in touch with the next adventure of my life whenever I get a few extra minutes.
Blessings………
